Breakfast for Skeksis

I've been wanting to take a little break from the girly (even though I do love me some pink) and do something darker and maybe something from my childhood. So after getting some Jim Henson inspiration I decided to do a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal. The Podlings are never shown in the rib cage of the Skeksis but I thought they were and after watching the movie for research for this piece I decided to do it anyway because I thought it would look cool, especially in paper. I hope you all like it, especially all those of you who also grew up with me in the 80's.

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo

Cinderella has always been my favorite all around Disney movie for so many reasons, it was fun to be able to do this piece. Although it looks exactly like the Disney movie and nothing like the Disney movie at the same time there was a lot of research, references, color studies, thumbnails ect that went into it=) I do this same process for most of my work.

We are going on a short vacay for the week and I'm just bringing my pencil, paper and some art books.. I've still got a lot to do on this project but since the characters are mostly done it shouldn't take me that much longer when we return.

Joyeux

I always envisioned "Joyeux" in a cage swinging on her perch but I couldn't think of a way to do it until I went to a store today and found this, I couldn't wait to get home to redo it. I always thought of her and the book by Maya Angelou "Why the Caged Bird Sings."

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo

I have some sweet twin cousins who's birthdays are coming up so I am doing a Cinderella and a Jasmine piece for them. I struggled with doing Cinderella how I wanted to make her, I was planning to use some Retta Scott Worcester inspired looks (first female Disney animator) but I decided to stick with the Disney original since my cousin's are still young and I think they would be a little disappointed if they didn't recognize her. I need to change Cinderella's facial expression but this is when she gets her beautiful dress. Sometimes drawings don't translate into paper very well and I've come to learn that dresses can be difficult.

 Lucifer is on top of Gus's head trying to trap the mouse, now turned horse, in the bowl.
