Momo

 Someone special is having a birthday this weekend and she happens to be a fellow Avatar fan ( and she's only 3=)). Her favorite character is Momo so I had to do a little something for her birthday present. If you don't know what "Avatar" is, and you either refer to the blue people or the horrible movie that was made after the series, please do yourself a favor and watch the entire animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender" so your life will be better;)

Bell's Handcrafts

If you notice that my Etsy account is looking a little bare it's because a wonderful store called Bell's Handcrafts in Newnan, Georgia is having their grand opening in February and I was asked to be one of the many artists contributing. I am honored and excited to have my paper sculptures displayed and sold and I hope to visit one day soon. Above are some pictures of the store after its remodel.

Deja Vu-Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets

Deja Vu! I was commissioned to do another of the Harry Potter pieces by a client/collector for Gallery Nucleus, the first one was sold on my Etsy account and bought by a collector in Europe. It was an honor to work with them again and I'm so thankful to have been able to get it done before Christmas for the client.

LuLu

I was commissioned to do a piece for a beautiful new baby girl. This is her crib bedding that her mommy picked out so the paper sculpture will hopefully look great in the nursery. There are two cute frogs peeking out of the flowers.

Happy 60th Birthday

This is a recent commission piece for a mothers 60th birthday celebration, it's nostalgic and has her love of all things Texas. I learned all about Texas with this project and yet know nothing of my own state, California. Texas' state insect is the Monarch Butterfly, State bird is the Mockingbird and state tree is the Pecan. I should be finished with it in the next week or so.

Breakfast for Skeksis

I've been wanting to take a little break from the girly (even though I do love me some pink) and do something darker and maybe something from my childhood. So after getting some Jim Henson inspiration I decided to do a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal. The Podlings are never shown in the rib cage of the Skeksis but I thought they were and after watching the movie for research for this piece I decided to do it anyway because I thought it would look cool, especially in paper. I hope you all like it, especially all those of you who also grew up with me in the 80's.

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo

Cinderella has always been my favorite all around Disney movie for so many reasons, it was fun to be able to do this piece. Although it looks exactly like the Disney movie and nothing like the Disney movie at the same time there was a lot of research, references, color studies, thumbnails ect that went into it=) I do this same process for most of my work.

Joyeux

I always envisioned "Joyeux" in a cage swinging on her perch but I couldn't think of a way to do it until I went to a store today and found this, I couldn't wait to get home to redo it. I always thought of her and the book by Maya Angelou "Why the Caged Bird Sings."

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo

I have some sweet twin cousins who's birthdays are coming up so I am doing a Cinderella and a Jasmine piece for them. I struggled with doing Cinderella how I wanted to make her, I was planning to use some Retta Scott Worcester inspired looks (first female Disney animator) but I decided to stick with the Disney original since my cousin's are still young and I think they would be a little disappointed if they didn't recognize her. I need to change Cinderella's facial expression but this is when she gets her beautiful dress. Sometimes drawings don't translate into paper very well and I've come to learn that dresses can be difficult.

 Lucifer is on top of Gus's head trying to trap the mouse, now turned horse, in the bowl.

It's Raining Cats & Dogs

I'm working on a new project, "It's Raining Cats & Dogs." Gallery Nucleus selected 13 artists to do a piece on their favorite idiom and that show starts this weekend but just for fun I wanted to do one too, so here is a sneak peek. My thumbnail sketch for the piece is in the third picture above.
